4-12 weeks curriculum:
There are two types of programs:
Fellowship
This allows hands-on training and access to the clinical workflow as well as real patients and their data. However, it requires approval and registration with Singapore Medical Council as well as Ministry of manpower. The paperwork takes about 6-months.
Traineeship
This program requires minimal paperwork. The candidates are able to understand the procedures. However, they would not be allowed to touch patients and their records.
Fellows will be supported to settle down into their new environment and register at the University, during which an ID card will be issued. A desk space will be allocated. The fellow will be fully trained to run a neurovascular laboratory for the advanced assessments of cerebral hemodynamics. Fellows will be able to follow the stroke neurology ward rounds, departmental teaching activities as well as multispecialty rounds (especially the neurovascular and neuroradiology). Trainees are not allowed to perform the tests on real patients, but they can do so on their colleagues. However, the fellows formally registered with Singapore Medical Council would be having patient access rights (under strict supervision). They will also be trained in how to analyse and interpret their data. I will arrange a regular meeting with the fellow to discuss and reflect on their progress and decide the next set of training modules based on data generated. They will be encouraged to engage in small research projects. They will also be encouraged to present their work orally at a research group meeting at least once before they complete their visit. Towards the end of the training I will have a meeting with the fellow to discuss plans to publish their work and disseminate their findings in a future conference. They will also be assisted to identify existing or future opportunities, globally or within their original work environment.
