Title: Physiology and Pharmacology of the autonomic nervous system and peripheral adverse reactions to drug treatments as related to the gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and cardiorespiratory functions: patient cases, questions and answers.
Lecturing and Teaching: This Traineeship is designed for undergraduate, graduate, pre-medical, medical, pharmacy and other professional health sciences students who want to improve their knowledge of physiology and pharmacology of the gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and cardiorespiratory functions and therapies.
Learning and Teaching Resources(web links, YouTube links, etc.): will be provided
Tasks and Timeline:
Module 1: Introduction to the autonomic nervous system.
This course will introduce the basic principles, functions and organization of the autonomic nervous system including
specific patient cases, questions and answers relevant to the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE).
Module 2: Physiology and Pharmacology of the smooth and cardiac muscles.
In this course, we will learn the basic principles, mechanisms, disorders and drug treatments of the smooth and
cardiac muscles including specific patient cases, questions and answers relevant to the USMLE.
Module 3: Physiology and Pharmacology of the skeletal muscles.
In this course, we will learn the basic principles, mechanisms, disorders and drug treatments of the skeletal muscles
including specific patient cases, questions and answers relevant to the USMLE.
Module 4: Physiology and Pharmacology of the gastrointestinal tract
In this course, we will learn the basic principles, mechanisms, disorders and drug treatments of the gastrointestinal
tract including specific patient cases, questions and answers relevant to the USMLE.
Module 5: Opioids and non-opioid treatments of chronic and acute pain.
In this course, we will learn the basic principles, mechanisms, and drug treatments of chronic and acute pain as related
to peripheral adverse effects including specific patient cases, questions and answers relevant to the USMLE.
Module 6: Physiology and Pharmacology of general and local anesthetics.
In this course, we will learn we will learn the basic principles, mechanisms and use of general and local anesthetics as
related to peripheral adverse effects including specific patient cases, questions and answers relevant to the USMLE.
Module 7: Strategies and challenges in drug discovery: why novel drugs fail?
In this course, we will learn what it takes to develop novel drugs for autonomic disorders and why so many drugs fail
and never reach the pharmacy shelves including requirements from the United States Food and Drug Administration
(US FDA) and specific patient cases, questions and answers relevant to the USMLE.
