The teaching hospital Anuradhapura is the third largest teaching hospital in Sri Lanka with more than 2000 beds and 100 specialists. It is integrated with a rural medical faculty with clinical departments in situ. Anuradhapura is a ancient capital with a history of close to 3000 years with easy access to national wild life parks. The hospital caters to variety of tropical and infectious diseases.

Techniques You Will Learn

The main research interest of our group is:

Clinical trials
Toxicology
Snake bite
Research into complimentary ad alternative medicine
MRSA and other infections

The main clinical work will be at a large teaching hospital with more than 2000 beds

One in four intake of acute medicine
Patients in ICU and emergency units
Two medical clinics
COVID hospital – with ICU and HDU facilities
Input from all medical sub-specialties with multiple procedures carried out in the ward

Academic activities

Undergraduate teaching (trialect trainees with suitable qualifications)
Weekly post graduate case presentation
Weekly journal club
Supervised ward rounds with case discussions

All fellows will be helped to find a suitable accommodation. Availability of cheap and hygienic meals from the hospital doctors’ canteen. Medical and dental care provided free. Facility to observe the ethics review committees (institutional review boards) when they review research proposals.Fellows who wish to observe other clinical specialties will be facilitated to do so. Any fellow who is staying for long term and wishes to conduct research will be encouraged and facilitated.

This program allows Merit Applications. This program allows merit-based applications for virtual and onsite clinical and research programs. If you are successfully awarded under this category, Trialect or the host mentor will cover the tuition fee only. All applications will be evaluated based on merit. Due to the high level of competition, the chances of being selected under the merit category are quite limited.
