The Freeman Hospital is a large cardiology tertiary centre with full portfolio of cardiothoracic procedures including heart and lung transplant and paediatric and congenital cardiology. The Freeman Hospital is a referral centre for complex coronary interventions, complex electrophysiology, complex congenital surgery and procedures. It is also an international centre of excellence for Laser, rotablation, and CTO intervention. I personally run training courses for consultants in laser, rotablation, CTO, and IVUS which the fellow will be welcome to participate in. The main clinical areas and procedures you will learn here:
4-12 weeks:
The prospective fellow will be supported to join and settle into the department and the new environment. A full induction and orientation will be provided. I will meet the fellow to establish their objective of the fellowship period and to plan their time to maximise their experience and gain from this fellowship. They will have access to all areas. They will attend the weekly joint cardiology and cardiothoracic multi-disciplinary meeting and the monthly department audit and mortality meeting. They will have the opportunity to present their work at the department audit meeting. The fellow will have the opportunity to rotate through all different departments and subspecialties and their timetable will be according to their objectives and areas of interests. I will conduct a mid-period meeting with the fellow to ensure there are gaining what they have set to do and modify as necessary. The fellow will get a certificate for their fellowship period.

There are multiple reasonably priced and good accommodations available by searching on the internet. The transport system to and from the hospital is excellent with buses, nearby metro stations. Newcastle upon Tyne is a vibrant city with multiple attractions and with easy access to the coast and the beautiful world famous country side.
