Main Areas of Interest

The clinical Research focus areas of our group are:

Diagnosis and (invasive) therapy of supra- and ventricular tachyarrhythmias
(Ablation) therapy of arrhythmias in pediatric and adult patients with congenital heart disease
Catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation
Pediatric and adult congenital heart surgery
End-stage heart failure surgery (cardiac assist devices implantation, heart transplantation)

The main research areas of our group are: Research:

high resolution and density mapping studies: during cardiac surgery, on experimental ex-vivoheart-perfusion set ups and living myocardial tissue slices (biomimetic systems).
innovation in diagnosis and therapy of arrhythmias in patients with congenital heart disease
innovation in diagnosis and therapy of arrhythmias in patients with heart failure
neuromodulation of cardiac arrhythmias
testing of novel technologies for diagnosis and therapy of cardiac arrhythmias in collaboration with the Delft University of Technology

Techniques You Will Learn

Surgical techniques you can attend as part of your research program:

catheter ablation of supraventricular tachyarrhythmias (3D mapping technologies, magnetic navigation)
catheter ablation of ventricular tachyarrhythmias (3D mapping technologies, magnetic navigation)
cardiac device implantation (pacemaker, (including subcutaneous) ICDs, leadless pacemakers)
cardiac surgery: pediatric and adult congenital heart disease
cardiac surgery: advanced heart failure: assist devices LVAD, RVAD, ECMO, heart transplantations
coronary artery bypass and valvular heart surgery
minimal invasive (arrhythmia) surgery

Curriculum

4-12 weeks curriculum

Fellows will be fully integrated in our daily research and clinical activities. Desk space will be allocated in our research laboratory. Full induction in our activities will be provided by the university’s designated staff and by myself. I will arrange an initial meeting with the fellow to discuss the objectives of the training. The fellow will be participating and/or attending in research and clinical activities of our departments (cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery).

They will be able to engage with me (supervisor) and other members of the group in clinical and research settings. They will also be engaged in clinical research and write a manuscript during their stay depending on their interest. During the training, I will meet with the fellow to discuss plans to publish their research project.

The fellow will be given the opportunity to actively participate in group meetings, courses and other academic activities within our university hospital. They will also be able to present their work orally at a group meeting at least once before they complete their visit. Throughout the training, any particular challenges or specific requests of a fellow will be fully considered to ensure a responsive, relevant and adequate training plan is developed for them.

This program allows Merit Applications. If you successfully are awarded a merit application - Trialect will take care of all bench and service fees, but you will have to take care of travel and accommodation. All applications will be scrutinized under the merit category. Considering 50 million health professionals around the world, the chances of getting selected under the merit category would be very low.

It gave me the opportunity to follow different approach of electrophysiologic procedures and also to participate in a basic science project. To really enjoy the program, as the duration is never long enouth (and I spent 2 months), you need to known what are your needs and focus on that.
