Techniques You Will Learn
Radiation therapy techniques you will learn during your program here:
- Total marrow/total nodal irradiation
- Stereotactic brain radiotherapy
- Stereotactic body radiotherapy
- Intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT)
- Highdose rate brachytherapy forgynaecological, breast, skin, head and neck, esophageal, bronchial and bile duct tumours
- Concomitant chemoradiotherapy
Furthermore, you will learn
- Hormone therapyfor patients with breast and prostate cancer, who may also receive the new drugs for castration-resistant disease
- Psycho-oncology (reserved for qualified or trainee psychiatrists and psychologists)
- Organising a voluntary association (reserved for anyone interested in setting up such a support groupor already engaged in one)
Curriculum
4, 6 and 12 week Traineeships
We will help you find suitable accommodation near the University Dept of Medicine and Perugia General Hospital and settle down in your new environment. Desk space will be allocated within the Radiation Oncology Unit in the University of Perugia. Full induction into health and safety regulations as well as clinical and laboratory practice will be provided by the University’s designated staff. Our first meeting with you will discuss yourtraining objectives.
You will receive full training in whichever activity you have chosen and will engage with your supervisor. Depending on your chosen area of interest you can expect to participate in the following procedures every week:
- Total marrow/nodal irradiation (1-2)
- Stereotactic brain radiotherapy (1-3)
- Stereotactic body radiotherapy (2-5)
- Intensity modulated radiotherapy (20)
- Brachytherapy (2)
Remember you will need workplace liability insurance.
Ifyouwant,you will participate in clinical research, learn from a medical statistician and write a paper on your observations or present your findings at a conference.
You will actively participate in group meetings and academic activities, including attending lectures,workshops, conferences and so on. You will also be encouraged to make an oral presentation of your work at a group meeting at least once during your visit.
Throughout yourtraining, any particular challenges or specific requests will be fully considered and satisfied if possible.
Yu will be issued with a certificate that you have successfully undertaken a fellowship in our Radiation Oncology Unit
