The main research areas of our group are:

Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy and neuropathic pain: in vivo, in silico, ex vivo and in vitro platforms to study pathogenetic mechanisms and protective strategies.
Innovative drug delivery for oncology, neuroimmunology and neuroprotection: in vitro, in silico and in vivo studies to test nanoparticles for their toxicity and effectiveness.
Restorative medicine: mesenchymal stem cells as therapeutic options for diabetes, multiple sclerosis,and chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy.
Multiple sclerosis: identification of possible disease biomarkers in collaboration with the Neuroimmunology Center at the S. Gerardo Hospital in Monza.
Natural compounds as antineoplastic agents: in vitro evaluation of antitumoral effect of natural compounds total extracts and their subfractions on different tumoral cell lines

Curriculum

6-8 weeks curriculum

The trainee will be provided with the opportunity of learning the basis of preclinical research in the field of peripheral neuropathy, having experiences of facing with clinical staff (neurologists) and basic researchers in an interdisciplinary and translational research environment
The trainee will be provided with the unique opportunity of experiencing the laboratory practice and to operate trainings on molecular biology, biochemistry, morphology, and neuropathology
The trainee may also have the opportunity of collaborating on research projects, depending on the ongoing activities at the time of the Trainee’s visit
The trainee will be provided with the opportunity of evaluating alternative antineoplastic agents for “Orphan Tumors”
The trainee will be provided with the opportunity of participating to meetings, journal clubs,seminars, including those of the PhD in Neuroscience and Virgilio Program at Experimental Neurology Unit and UNIMIB
The trainee will have the opportunity to join collaborative research programs with national and international laboratories and companies ongoing at Experimental Neurology Unit at the time of the Trainee’s visit

This program allows Merit Applications. This program allows merit-based applications for virtual and onsite clinical and research programs. If you are successfully awarded under this category, Trialect or the host mentor will cover the tuition fee only. All applications will be evaluated based on merit. Due to the high level of competition, the chances of being selected under the merit category are quite limited.
