Lecturing and Teaching:
This Traineeship is addressed to undergraduate and graduate students in Science and Medicine, and Health professionals working with patients and colleagues exposed to traumatic experiences, such as car accidents, abuse, COVID19, and other devastating conditions.
Learning and Teaching Resources (web links, YouTube links, etc.):
Before each session, a written introduction to the course (1-2 pages) and Publications by the mentors and other fundamental articles will be provided by the mentor to students to review. The
courses will be performed in English or Spanish as requested. Also, questionnaires to review the contents will be provided.
Tasks and Timeline:
Module 1: Introduction to Brain regions involved in memory, emotional control, and stress responses.,brain cells, and neurotransmission. 45 min
In this module, we will review the basic concepts in neuroscience to understand brain function and communication.
Module 2: Definition, Causes, symptoms, and brain abnormalities in Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) (45 min).
In this module, we will learn the concepts of stress disorders, recognize the symptoms, structural and functional abnormalities induced by PTSD in the brain
Module 3: Molecular and cellular changes in the brain associated with PTSD (45 min)
In this module, we will review fundamental concepts required to understand the brain changes induced by trauma, including neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, glial abnormalities, HPA axis dysregulation,
Module 4: The environmental, epigenetic, and genetic factors modulating susceptibility or resilience to stress (45 min).
In this module, we will learn the advances in the genetic factors associated with the risk of developing PTSD.
Module 5: Therapies for PTSD. (45 min)
This course will teach the latest advances in PTSD therapy, In this activity, we will critically discuss clinical evidence of new therapies against PTSD and Strategies of coping.
Module 6: Presentation y discussion of new therapies for PTSD.(45 min)
We will discuss new experimental approaches such as Ketamine, Cannabinoids, repurposed drugs, and other approaches. This activity will reinforce the concepts learned during the course and discusses particular aspects no aborded during previous sessions.
