  • DNA, RNA extraction, Real time PCR for quantitative gene expression
  • cell culture and transfection techniques
  • cell viability/toxicity assays (necrosis, apoptosis, cell cycle analysis,)
  • immunofluorescence on cultured cells and primary human tissues (biopsies), to detect protein expression and protein to protein interaction
  • flow cytometry
  • molecular gene cloning
  • bioinformatics: analysis of publicly available databases to determine gene expression

2-, 4-, 8-, and 12-week program

Independently of the program that will be chosen, the fellow will be trained by a PhD student and myself. He/she can learn those techniques that are in use at the time of arrival in the lab, according to the mid-point reached by each project.

The fellow will be trained to run each experiment, based on the skills he/she gained in the past. Every single experiment at first will be described and performed under the fellow supervision, then left in his/her hands. The lab, located in 6 rooms and one  open space, is shared with other groups (Pharmacology groups) in which the fellow will find a friendly atmosphere. Once a week he/she will take part to the group-meeting to discuss results and new plans.

All throughout the training any peculiar challenges or specific requests of a fellow will be fully considered to ensure a responsive, relevant and adequate training plan is developed for them.

During the long-term programs, fellows will also have the opportunity to participate to seminars with international guests (if planned by the Departmental organization), winter school on biotechnologies (only in January, in English), and the “biotechnological drugs” course (by myself) from March to May each year (in English).

Guest house/accommodation near the lab (2-5 minutes walking)

Apartment rental options or hotels are available nearby the labs at San Sisto district (fellows can check in the website of Vrbo, Airbnb, https://www.booking.com/ seeking for “hotel Perugia San Sisto”).

We can help find an accommodation if needed.

Alternatively, the city centre offers many opportunities for accomodations, and the possibility to live the life of the city on feet. Buses are available to link the centre to the hospital/university, where the labs are located.

This program has the following durations available:

Duration Fee
2 weeks $875.00
6 weeks $1,500.00
12 weeks $2,750.00

This program allows Merit Applications. This program allows merit-based applications for virtual and onsite clinical and research programs. If you are successfully awarded under this category, Trialect or the host mentor will cover the tuition fee only. All applications will be evaluated based on merit. Due to the high level of competition, the chances of being selected under the merit category are quite limited.

Independently of the program that will be chosen, the fellow will be trained by a PhD student and myself.
