The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Central America and Andean Region program, with support from the Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario (Universidad del Rosario), the National University of San Agustín de Arequipa (UNSA), the Technical University Particular de Loja (UTPL) and the Espíritu Santo University of Guayaquil (UEES) aims to promote and encourage the participation of women in science in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.
In this 2025 edition, three women researchers – one Colombian, one Ecuadorian, and one Peruvian – are being recognized. These women are nationally and internationally recognized for their excellent career trajectories and scientific production in formal sciences, life and environmental sciences, physical sciences, engineering sciences, and technological sciences. The purpose of this recognition is to encourage their brilliant scientific careers by awarding them a grant to contribute to the development of their projects and consolidate the female role in designing scientific solutions to the problems humanity faces in the new millennium.
The award will consist of USD $10,000 for each recipient. That is, a total of USD $30,000 will be allocated to three researchers, one from each country, who have a doctoral degree or are currently pursuing a doctorate at national universities in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, or abroad. The recipients must be leading ongoing research projects related to formal sciences, life and environmental sciences, physical sciences, engineering sciences, and technological sciences, and the research project must be conducted at a research center or university in the aforementioned countries.
The candidate must have citizenship by birth or naturalization in one of the following countries: Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
The candidate must be recognized as female in their national identification document.
Candidates must have either completed or be currently enrolled in a doctoral program in one of the following countries: Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, or abroad. Candidates currently pursuing their doctorate must be at least in the second year of their program. Candidates who have already completed their doctorate must have obtained their degree within a maximum of 8 years before the application deadline.
The candidate must be the principal investigator of a scientific research project in a discipline listed in Appendix 1 (a document available for consultation in the informative documents section) that contributes to the advancement of science in the countries of this regional program (Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru).
