Lode Verbeeck Fund call for projects: hippotherapy in Flanders

Therapeutic horse riding or hippotherapy is an umbrella term for the targeted use of horses, ponies or donkeys to achieve physical, motor or psychological improvements in patients.

This can range from horse care, to covered wagon rides, to exercises on the horse's back. For example, hippotherapy has proven its worth in the treatment of

physical conditions e.g. promoting relaxation in children with spasticity
educational problems e.g. autism
social and psychological problems, e.g. giving socially neglected young people new confidence in their environment and in themselves.

The Lode Verbeeck Fund will once again award several prizes in 2025.

This year, 30,000 euros will be distributed:

One joint prize of 10,000 euros from the Lode Verbeeck Fund and Groene Zorg Oost-Vlaanderen specifically for a project within the Province of East Flanders.
Multiple prizes between 5,000 and 7,500 euros from the Lode Verbeeck Fund can be awarded to projects in all Flemish Provinces that meet the criteria.
One additional prize of €5,000 will be awarded thanks to the support of the Irma Marquet Fund.

A project is professionally substantiated, with a clear budget. Social impact and support are demonstrable so that continuity is guaranteed. The innovative nature of a project, both in terms of target group and methodology, is a plus. The jury will pay special attention to these points: a realistic and complete budget, sustainability, innovation. Projects with the aim of scientific support for hippotherapy are also eligible.
