This programme funds preclinical and clinical research focused on slowing, stopping, or reversing Parkinson’s. We do not fund research which is directed at symptomatic relief. Our grant funding process has changed! Due to the discontinuation of Grant Tracker, we will be returning to manual processes for research grant funding submissions. Please review all the guidance below for information on how to apply. Our funding remit
For preclinical research, we fund grants up to £250,000 (GBP) and prioritise projects that are likely to lead to clinical trials in people with Parkinson’s within 5 years. For clinical research, we fund clinical trials and sub-studies of trials in people with Parkinson’s. The grant amount is flexible but please contact us ahead of submission if you are thinking of applying for a clinical trial.
We fund internationally and accept applications from academics and commercial entities. However, the costs in commercial applications should be justified and equivalent to academic costs where possible.
Projects must aim to slow, stop, or reverse Parkinson’s, not symptom relief.
Proposals should include the potential to translate into clinical use within 5 years, either via a Phase‑2/2b trial or critical supporting work .
For preclinical projects, budgets typically go up to £250 K, with strong translational emphasis .
Clinical proposals may vary by size but must justify cost equivalence to academic standards and fall in the translational pathway .
The Trust prioritizes disease‑modifying therapies, clinical trial readiness, and translational work linked to the International Linked Clinical Trials (iLCT) program .
All proposals go through the Research Committee and final trustee approval alongside funding availability and relevance .
Applications undergo 2+ external expert reviews followed by Research Committee assessment and Trustee sign-off .
The Trust is part of AMRC, guaranteeing a robust, peer-reviewed process .
Funding is open to academia and SMEs, with expectations for equivalent cost proposals in both cases .
The Trust funds globally, so international applicants are encouraged .
Funds must only cover direct project costs, with no overheads upon overheads applied; grants have ranged from £50 K to £2.5 M over 1–3 years .
If co-funded, Cure Parkinson’s funding is contingent on securing the full budget overall .
Applications are accepted four times a year, with full assessment taking ~3–4 months .
Support is available for bridging funding—especially if trials face logistical delays .
The Trust actively fosters connections between researchers, clinicians, patients, and stakeholders, including iLCT and workshops .
✅ Quick Success Checklist
Predictor | Why It’s Important |
---|---|
Disease‑modifying aim | Central to mission |
≤5‑year clinical translation | Focused and urgent |
Expert peer-reviewed design | Quality vetting |
Institutional or SME backing | Feasibility and credibility |
Transparent direct cost budget | Aligned with funding model |
Completion roadmap & continuity | Realistic timelines |
Committee/trustee endorsement | Strategic fit |
Networking to iLCT & community | Greater visibility & support |
Frame your project clearly as disease-modifying with a defined translation pathway within 5 years.
Detail scope, milestones, and direct costs thoroughly—avoid indirect expenses.
Show institutional or SME commitment, including resource support and cost justification.
Prepare for robust peer review: target high scientific rigor and translational potential.
Consider alignment with iLCT if researching repurposed compounds.
Plan reporting and possible bridging needs to avoid funding gaps.
Engage the Trust’s team early—they encourage pre-submission conversations.
The RC evaluates applications (see process below) following our Research Strategy and using the following criteria:
• Appropriateness to CP’s core funding remit.
• Scientific rationale. • Originality.
• Clarity of the application.
• Experimental appropriateness.
• Appropriateness of statistical methods.
• Collaboration.
• Track record of applicant.
• Diversity considerations of animals or participants.
• Proposed budget and justification.
• Value for money.
• Proposed milestones.
• Overall quality of the application.
• The proximity of the proposal to clinical translation.
• The potential and likely impact of the project within a specified timescale.
• The steps needed to guide the project to clinic.
• Whether the project is a part of a wider programme of research.
• How you plan to share results and data broadly.
• Engagement and involvement of people with Parkinson’s in the project design process – this is assessed for both pre-clinical and clinical projects, please review the AMRC guidance that can be found here, or contact the CP research team for further support.
