The Japan-Africa Programme offers grants to post-graduate scholars from Japan and Africa who want to do research in African Studies in Africa and Japan respectively. The Programme is intended to support 1) Researchers from Japan to carry out research at institutes in African universities and 2) Researchers from Africa to carry out research at institutes in Japanese universities.
Fellowships are for a minimum period of 6-8 weeks up to maximum 1 year. It is also possible to split up the time spent abroad. The application period is from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026, Financial support for successful applicants ranges from 22,500 Euro to 27,500 Euro per year and is pro-rated for different periods.
