The ChadTough Defeat DIPG grants are intended to incentivize novel approaches and spark innovation to find a cure for the deadliest pediatric brain cancer, DIPG. It is no easy task. But we are confident that by working together with the passionate doctors and researchers focused on making progress on this disease, children with DIPG will finally be able to look forward to a bright future.
We are committed to building the most comprehensive grant program for funding DIPG research. To achieve this goal, we offer three types of grants: Fellowship Grants, New Investigator Grants, and Game Changer Grants.
Awarded to outstanding pre-doctoral and post-doctoral fellows under the guidance of a mentor to help develop the next generation of leaders in DIPG research. $300,000 over 3 years (maximum of $100,000 per year) for post-doctoral fellows; $200,000 over 3 years (maximum of $67,000 per year) for pre-doctoral fellows.
Application Due: September 8, 2025
Available: March 3, 2025
Awarded: November 2025
Start: January 1, 2026
1. ✳️ Alignment with the DIPG/DMG Mission
Your project must focus exclusively on DIPG/DMG research, addressing disease mechanisms, diagnostic tools, therapeutic strategies, or clinical intervention.
The Foundation funds only childhood brain cancer research targeting these devastating tumors.
2. 🎓 Appropriate Program for Career Stage & Project Type
Fellowship Grants (pre‑doc/post‑doc):
3-year support: up to $100K/year (post-doc) or $67K/year (pre-doc), for early researchers under mentor supervision.
New Investigator Grants:
Up to $400K over 3 years (max $135K/year). Supports newly independent faculty starting DIPG research or established investigators with no prior DIPG/DMG experience.
Game Changer Grants:
Up to $600K over 3 years (max $200K/year). Intended for high-risk, innovative strategies with transformative potential.
3. 🧪 Innovation & Translational Potential
Projects must present novel hypotheses or technologies directly relevant to DIPG.
Clinical trial‐ready strategies, advanced delivery platforms (e.g., convection-enhanced delivery, nanomedicine), or mechanistic breakthroughs are highly valued. Recent Game Changer awardees include those developing targeted drug delivery across the blood-brain barrier.
4. 🔄 Feasibility, Track Record & Mentorship
Fellowship applicants need a strong mentor, institutional support, and commitment of ≥75 % research time.
New Investigators must demonstrate faculty-level independence (tenure-track position, institutional support, lab space).
Game Changer applicants should show leadership appetite and prior productivity.
5. 🧭 Competitive, Peer-Reviewed Process
Applications are rigorously evaluated by the ChadTough Scientific Advisory Council, composed of DIPG experts; final decisions are made by the Foundation’s board.
