Excellent scientific training for doctoral students
The Else Kröner-Fresenius Foundation aims to support medical faculties in Germany in inspiring and attracting particularly interested and talented medical students to pursue scientific research. Doctoral programs offer students the opportunity to pursue challenging doctoral studies and explore academic career paths.
To this end, the Else Kröner-Fresenius Foundation is offering proposals for the establishment of three doctoral programs, each with a maximum of €900,000 for a three-year term. A second three-year period is possible upon positive evaluation.
The application is expected to include an innovative program for a doctoral program with clearly structured recruitment, training, supervision and quality assurance components, as well as an attractive offer for medical students to work full-time on their doctorate for at least nine months (e.g. one semester with adjacent lecture-free periods).
Following evaluation by the Foundation's Scientific Commission, some applicants will be invited to submit full proposals. Following evaluation and recommendation by the Foundation's Scientific Commission, the Foundation Board will make a decision on funding, expected by the end of 2025
Eligible to apply are the medical faculties in Germany, represented by their deans. Each faculty may submit only one application. The call for proposals is divided into two stages: Draft proposals can be submitted by email to antrag-wissenschaft@ekfs.de by June 26, 2025. Instructions on how to apply can be found below in the download section.
