Our urology service specializes in the treatment of urinary tract neoplasms, offering comprehensive, high-quality care. We perform advanced procedures, including open, laparoscopic and robotic surgeries. Located in the charming city of Florianópolis, our center of excellence in urology is open to visiting physicians, offering a unique opportunity for learning, exchanging experiences and improving skills in innovative techniques. The Fellowship will have the opportunity to participate in open, laparoscopic and robotic prostatectomies, nephrectomies and open cystectomies, as well as transurethral bladder resections.
Florianópolis, known as the "Magic Island", is the capital of the state of Santa Catarina, in southern Brazil. It is famous for its beautiful beaches, which attract tourists from all over the world, as well as its exuberant nature, which combines mountains, lagoons and preserved areas. The city has a rich culture, with a strong Azorean influence, and a relaxed lifestyle. Florianópolis is also known for its excellent infrastructure, especially for those who enjoy water sports such as surfing. It also has excellent cuisine, especially seafood.
Prostate cancer surgeries, bladder cancer surgeries, kidney cancer surgeries, penile cancer surgeries, testicle cancer.
If the visiting doctor shows interest, he/she will also be welcome in kidney stones treatments in the other hospital in city center.
The fellow will be involved in the ward and surgical activities. Based on the fellow’s experience the consultants will tutor progressively the steps of different surgical procedures. The fellow will be always under the direct supervision of the tutor or one of the consultants. The fellows will not be asked to prescribe medications or fill in patients' notes, as the aim of their stay will focus on surgical activities.
The Urology Department offers a daily surgical activity, including both routine and complex cases. The aims and expectations should be discussed with the tutor at the beginning of the fellowship and will be based also on the fellowship duration. Essential surgical targets could be:
Fellows will be supported to settle down into their new environment. The department will provide a personal badge after full induction. The fellow will be fully trained to all activities of the Department. They will be able to engage with me (supervisor) and other members of the group in different surgical procedures.
Hospital’s main language is Portuguese, but most of the staff speaks in English and some also speak Spanish.
A certificate will be given at the end of the fellowship.
The Fellowship will take place in more the one hospital. The host hospital is a cancer center called CEPON - Centro de Pesquisas Oncológicas, well located near city center. Other hospitals in which the Fellows will be encouraged to participate are SOS Cardio for the Robotic Surgeries and Hospital Governador Celso Ramos. They are all well located nearby the city center, located near the middle part of the island. Yes, the city is located on an island, which also has an International Airport.
Most of the city beatiful beaches are located in the north, south and east areas of the island, and the Fellow will also be encouraged to explore the natural wonders and touristic spots of the city.
There are bike sharing services. Uber also works fine.
