The Department of Transplantation Surgery at the Aristotle University School of Medicine is involved in liver transplantation, renal transplantation (living and deceased donors) and pancreas transplantation, in addition to complex hepatobiliary surgery, as well as general surgery in patients in the transplant waiting list or after transplantation. Additionally, the Center for Research and Innovation in Solid Organ Transplantation conducts a variety of clinical and basic science research projects, with special emphasis in the integration of technological advances in solid organ transplantation, inculding artificial intelligence, 3D printing and extreme reality.

Tecniques learned in our program include renal and liver transplantation, as well as complex hepatobiliary surgery. Additionally there is the opportunity to participate in clinical and basic science research
The curriculum involves participation in renal and liver transplantation, including the pre-, intra- and post-operative care, as well as participation in the meetings of the department which include a kidney meeting, liver meeting and an educational meeting for our residents.
Brief Biography of the Host Mentor
Dr. Georgios Tsoulfas received his medical degree from Brown University School of Medicine and completed his general surgery residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He undertook a transplant research fellowship at the Starzl Transplant Institute at the University of Pittsburgh and completed a two-year fellowship in transplantation surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Tsoulfas then joined the Division of Solid Organ Transplantation and Hepatobiliary Surgery at the University of Rochester Medical Center as an Associate Professor of Surgery. He has since returned to Greece and is currently an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
He has published over 70 papers in peer-reviewed journals and 17 book chapters. Dr. Tsoulfas serves as a reviewer for 15 international journals and is on the editorial board of several others. He has received multiple awards, including the Edward E. Mason award for excellence in patient care and education.

He has received the American College of Surgeons International Guest Scholarship and is active in several committees, including the International Relations Committee of the American College of Surgeons and the International Relations Committee of the American Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (AHPBA).
Dr. Tsoulfas currently serves as the President of the Greek Chapter of the International College of Surgeons, World President of the International College of Surgeons, and Vice Chair of the International Relations Committee of the American College of Surgeons.
