Fellows will be supported to settle down into their new environment (find appropriate accommodation, locate amenities, etc.). Desk space will be allocated. Full induction (safety, laboratory practices, personal welfare, etc.) will be provided by the University’s designated staff and by myself. I will arrange an initial meeting with the fellow to discuss the objectives of the training.

The fellow will be fully trained to all activities of the Department. They will be able to engage with me (supervisor) and other members of the group in different surgical procedures. They will also engage in clinical research and write a manuscript during their stay.

The fellow will be given the opportunity to partake in group meetings and other academic activities within the School and the University, including attending workshops, conferences, e.t.c They will also be encouraged to present their work orally at a group meeting at least once before they complete their visit.

Towards the end of the training, I will have a meeting with the fellow to discuss plans to publish their clinical work (if enough data is collected) or disseminate their findings in a future conference.

All throughout the training any particular challenges or specific requests of a fellow will be fully considered to ensure a responsive, relevant, and adequate training plan is developed for them.

Your chances of getting hands-on training is better when you consider 8-12 week programs

I expected more interaction with the department heads in term of case discussions which is required for the new surgeons. I was very pleased with wide variety of cases being done. Got a lot of scope to learn cutting edge techniques to witness like Trochleoplasty, multi ligament injuries, robotic unicondylar replacements and reverse shoulder Arthroplasty.

From time to time there where too many fellows present at the same time. The program would benefit from separating the visiting fellows in two groups: Short term (2-4 weeks) clinical fellowships for candidates/more experienced surgeons with a special interest in either sports surgery, patellofemoral instability or robotic knee surgery. Long-term research fellowships of minimum 12 weeks In addition I missed the opportunity to present my own research work and my own hospital more formally in order to pinpoint my area of interest and possibly enable a more active interaction at an early stage. In general, I had a good experience during my 8-week program as a visiting fellow at the department of knee surgery at the Croix Rousse. I was able to follow both Prof. Servien and Prof. Lustig in the clinic and in the operating theatre where they had a good mix of interesting cases to learn from. Although they are happy to communicate in English, the fellows experience at the hospital will be best if the fellows also are able to communicate well in French. In particular this is the case for following the discussions in the outpatient clinic but also to pick up the details during the surgery. Both Prof. Servien and prof. Lustig have an impressive research portfolio and ongoing research production, and my experience was that the fellowship was best tailored for younger surgeons who were able to stay there for minimum 12 weeks as it then was expected (and made possible) that they were included in one or more of the clinic´s many ongoing research projects.

Hi Doctor, First of all, you have to understand that your fee goes to the host institution and not us. We only take a service from the host to facilitate the process. The host institution decides the merit, priority, and other categories, and not us. It is not practical for any institution to offer free courses for all the doctors in third-world countries.
