Paediatric University Centre ‘G. Gaslini’ Institute, University of Genova, provides fellowship/traineeship program at clinical and Neurogenetic laboratory Fellowship/traineeship in the areas of Neurological /Neuropsychiatric disorders. Two (On-Site in Italy) positions are available every 6 months. The main field of interest is molecular genetics of idiopathic epilepsies with a special reference to clinical assessment of children with epilepsy and genotype-phenotype relationships.
The Neurogenetics Laboratory Equipment include:
Clinical environment consists of an in-patient and out-patient service, EEG laboratory for long term and video EEG monitoring. The Pediatric Neurology Unit provides diagnosis and comprehensive care to children with any type of neurological disorder. A team of five neurologists, one neuropsychologist, four nurse practitioners. A team of nationally and internationally respected members all board-certified in both pediatrics and neurology offers state-of-the-art care for an array of neurological disorders. Our medical and nurse staff is devoted to the comprehensive and most advanced surgical treatment of children with neurological disorders and adults with congenital disorders. The group has a diverse background of training and specialties and boasts one of the finest practices in the region and work in close collaboration with other pediatric disciplines to provide multidisciplinary care for our patients.
The Neurogenetics laboratory Equipment includes: ABI PRISM 3130XL Genetic Analyzer, Array-CGH Scanner, 8 thermacyclers, 3 Microscopes, PC Network, cell colture room. The lab suite includes a large meeting room with LCD projector and whiteboard for group discussion. Core facilities of the lab include FACS, confocal microscope, mass-spectrometer, real time PCR. There are also additional services, i.e., scientific library, internet access to major scientific journals. The laboratory contains 6 networked Windows-based computers, equipped with software and hardware for data sharing and analysis. An optic fiber network and wi-fi routers allow data exchange among laboratory members and Interned access. Additional high capacity office equipment is located in the Pediatric Neurology Department main offices, two floors above. Offices are within the laboratory suite, permitting easy interaction with staff and trainees, with direct phone lines and internet access.
