Dr. Styliani Geronikolou is a distinguished researcher with expertise spanning public and environmental health, electromagnetic radiation effects, precision medicine, machine learning, epidemiology, and bioethics. She is a licensed Public and Environmental Hygienist and Inspector with additional certification in Environmental Management (Italy) and HACCP design (UK). She holds a MSc in Biomedicine and PhD in Medicine from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where her research focused on electromagnetic field (EMF) effects on puberts neuroendocrine system. Dr. Geronikolou also earned and pursued further education in bioethics through programs at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Zurich (via a Stavros Niarchos Foundation scholarship). Her research contributions include work in environmental health, bioinformatics, meta-analyses, communicable and non-communicable diseases, neurodegenerative disorders, and the historical foundations of medicine. She is a contributing expert and reviewer for the MedECC (Mediterranean Experts on Climate and Environmental Change)network and in various Consortia focusing on sustainability and health-environment interactions. She is member in 5 national and 6 international scientific societies and editor in 6 international peer-reviewed journals.

I am Researcher C (Assistant Professor Level) in the University Research Institute of Maternal & Child Health and Precision Medicine National & Kapodistrian of Athens University Medical School and this program reflects my expertise. However, these classes will be independently hosted and not endorsed by or affiliated with the University. Certificates issued will note my affiliation but do not imply university endorsement. Participants will receive a guided research project and meet with me every week for mentorship, progress tracking, and advanced discussions. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own datasets or research problems and apply the learned techniques in real time to generate meaningful results under expert guidance.
This six module online program is designed to guide participants through the entire lifecycle of retrospective research in environmental health. From formulating a research question to publishing in peer-reviewed journals, this fellowship offers step-by-step training for those aiming to build skills in designing, executing, and communicating epidemiological studies.
Module 1: The What, How, and Why of Environmental Health Research
Introduction to environmental health research, including the importance of ethics, data protection, and identifying types of bias.
Module 2: Observational Studies
Covers study design with a focus on retrospective observational studies, their structures, and strengths/limitations.
Module 3: The Research Proposal
Step-by-step guide to developing a research proposal, creating a budget, and drafting a Gantt chart for planning.
Module 4: Conducting a Retrospective Study
Execution of retrospective studies using designs like systematic reviews and case-control studies, along with methodological differences between quantitative and qualitative approaches.
Module 5: Writing a Scientific Article
Techniques for transforming research results into a structured and original scientific manuscript.
Module 6: Submitting to a Journal
Guidance on selecting appropriate journals for submission, understanding journal types, and avoiding predatory publishers.
