Cannabinoid-based molecules for Onco-Metabolic and Neurodegenerative Therapy

Institute of Biomolecular Chemistry, National Research Council of Italy

Institute of Biomolecular Chemistry, National Research Council of Italy

Main Areas of Interest

  • Developing novel cannabinoid-based therapies for onco-metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases
  • Identifying multi-modal molecules that selectively target the endocannabinoid system
  • Validation of new combinatorial cannabinoid-based antitumor therapies
  • Elucidating the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in various pathological contexts, particularly its connection to cannabinoid receptors
  • High-Resolution Respirometry: To assess mitochondrial function, oxygen consumption rates (OCR), and metabolic activity in cells and tissues.
  • Western Blotting and Immunohistochemistry: For protein expression analysis and receptor localization in tissues and cells.
  • Flow Cytometry and FACS: To analyze cell populations, apoptosis, proliferation, and receptor expression.
  • Confocal Microscopy: For detailed visualization of cellular structures, receptor distribution, and mitochondrial dynamics.
  • qRT-PCR: To investigate gene expression profiles and identify pathways modulated by cannabinoid-based therapies.
  • In Vitro and In Vivo Tumor Models: To evaluate antitumor efficacy, drug synergy, and the impact of combinatorial therapies.
  • 3D Cell Culture Systems: To create physiologically relevant tumor models.
  • Omics Approaches (Proteomics, Metabolomics, Lipidomics): To uncover systemic effects of cannabinoids and their impact on cellular metabolism.

Fellowship Program Curriculum (6-12 weeks)
