Dr. Mohamed Bouattour is a medical specialist at Beaujon University Hospital in Clichy, France. He has been a practitioner since 2007, with board certifications in Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Medical Oncology. His primary expertise lies in the management and research of liver tumors, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and cholangiocarcinoma. He has served as the principal investigator for several phase 1 to 3 clinical trials focusing on these conditions.

Clinical Trial Design and Management:

  • Development and execution of Phase 1 to Phase 3 clinical trials in liver oncology.
  • Understanding protocols for clinical research involving liver tumors.

Multidisciplinary Care in Digestive Oncology:

  • Collaborative care models involving hepatologists, oncologists, radiologists, and surgeons.
  • Integrating medical, interventional, and surgical approaches.

Innovative Liver Cancer Treatments:

  • Exploring novel therapies, including targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and precision medicine for liver cancer.
  • Reviewing current and emerging clinical guidelines.

Participants will gain limited hands-on experience in the following techniques (this is not a board certified fellowship; this is a visiting program to gain experience only):

Advanced Diagnostic Techniques for Liver Cancer:

  • Imaging modalities: MRI, CT, and PET scans specific to liver tumors.
  • Biomarker identification and interpretation for HCC and cholangiocarcinoma.

Interventional Oncology Procedures:

  • Techniques include transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), radiofrequency ablation (RFA), and radioembolization.

Clinical Trial Protocol Development:

  • Crafting study designs, implementing protocols, and managing patient cohorts in Phase 1-3 trials.
  • Best practices in ethical considerations and regulatory compliance for liver cancer trials.

Multidisciplinary Tumor Board Participation:

  • Collaborative decision-making processes in complex hepatobiliary cancer cases.
  • Reviewing case studies and presenting research data.

Week 1-2:
Introduction and Overview

  • Orientation and review of institutional protocols.
  • Understanding the epidemiology and clinical presentation of primary liver tumors.
  • Basics of imaging and liver function tests for tumor diagnosis.

Week 3-4:
Diagnosis and Staging

  • Limited Hands-on sessions with imaging and pathology teams to learn staging techniques.
  • Detailed study of biomarkers and diagnostic criteria.
  • Participation in patient case reviews with the hepatology team.

Week 5-6:
Therapeutic Approaches

  • Review of therapeutic modalities, including local and systemic treatments.
  • Observing and assisting in interventional procedures (TACE, RFA, etc.).
  • Learning about targeted therapy and immunotherapy options in advanced liver cancer.

Week 7-8:
Clinical Trials and Research

  • Immersive experience in ongoing clinical trials: protocol adherence, patient enrollment, and data management.
  • Developing skills in writing clinical trial protocols.
  • Reviewing ethical and regulatory requirements for trials in hepatology.

Week 9-10:
Multidisciplinary Management

  • Active participation in tumor boards and interdisciplinary meetings.
  • Integrating medical, interventional, and surgical management plans for complex cases.
  • Case study presentations by fellows.

Week 11-12:
Capstone and Future Directions

  • Final presentation by fellows on a selected research topic or case study.
  • Feedback sessions with Dr. Bouattour and senior consultants.
  • Exploring future research opportunities and collaborations.

This program allows Merit Applications. This program allows merit-based applications for virtual and onsite clinical and research programs. If you are successfully awarded under this category, Trialect or the host mentor will cover the tuition fee only. All applications will be evaluated based on merit. Due to the high level of competition, the chances of being selected under the merit category are quite limited.
