The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) awards MD fellowships of up to 18 months to outstanding medical students to pursue ambitious, experimental projects in basic biomedical research worldwide. Fellowship holders must study human medicine in Germany and change cities and institutions for at least ten consecutive months to work in an internationally renowned laboratory.
MD fellowships enable students of human medicine to perform excellent basic research and thus build bridges between basic research and the clinic.

The amount of your monthly stipend depends on where you pursue your project. The total amount also includes a fixed monthly sum to cover minor project-related costs. Together, they come to e.g. 1,400 euros in Germany, 1,700 euros in the UK, and 2,100 euros in the USA.
