THE ÅHLÉN FOUNDATION- Research grants

Grants up to SEK 450,000, exceptionally slightly higher, is awarded for research in the following areas:

Parkinson's disease
ALS
Psychoses, especially schizophrenia and bipolar disorder
Dementia diseases
Abuse and dependence, but not alcoholism
Perinatal brain injuries

The research must be conducted in Sweden at an established research institution.

The foundation's grants are primarily intended to cover the costs of materials and equipment in connection with laboratory work. However, overhead costs of up to 23% are allowed.

It follows from this that the foundation's contributions are intended to cover costs for materials and equipment in connection with laboratory sessions.

There is no limit to how long contributions can be made to an ongoing project.

The text in the application must be written in Swedish or English.

In 2023, 81 medical applications were submitted. 42 of these were prioritized for grants with amounts between SEK 100,000 and SEK 400,000.
A total of SEK 10,411,000 was awarded.

The Åhlén Foundation awards grants every year. Application period 1 July - 15 September.

Decisions on the distribution of grants are made by the foundation's board during the month of November and notification is provided to applicants before the end of the year.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICATION FOR FUNDING FOR MEDICAL RESEARCH

Complete applications, which must be submitted via the foundation's web form (see below), will be accepted during the period July 1 to September 15.

In addition to formal information, the application must contain:

Attachments in PDF format must be attached to the online application.

CV for applicant and possible co-applicant
Thesis title, department and supervisor
Bibliography containing original articles up to ten years old, highlighting the five most important publications relevant to the application.
Report regarding any previously received grants, an account of how the grant was used, publication(s) to which the grant contributed and a very brief popular science description in Swedish of the content of each publication. If a report from previous grants is missing, no new application will be processed.
Title of the project and at which department and university the project will be carried out.
Amount requested.
Project description in Swedish or English. This should begin with a popular science summary in Swedish.
Approval from an ethics committee should be indicated, if required for the project. If this is not the case, this should be explicitly stated in the application.
Reference list.
Presentation of the researchers who are part of the applicant's group
Timetable for project implementation.
Budget description. It must be clear that the applicant's and employees' salaries are secured during the project period. A cost estimate must be included and the financing plan. Grants applied for and granted from other donors must be stated and who these are. It must be clear what the applied for grant is intended to be used for within the project.

Applicants who have previously been granted a grant from the Åhlén Foundation must have submitted an account of this in order for a new application to be processed .

Incomplete applications will not be processed.
