Robotic Research Grant colorectal surgery.

American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons

The Robotic Research Grant provides researchers an opportunity to study in depth areas related to colorectal surgery and robotics. Past topics have included education, ergonomics, health equity, quality and safety, focused colorectal surgery populations such as young onset colorectal surgery cancer, new surgical techniques as it relates to colorectal surgery and robotics.  


Funding

Applicants are eligible for $75,000 per year for 2 years of funding (total $150,000). The second year of funding is contingent upon a satisfactory review of a submitted progress report documenting progress in the first year. 

  • The number of awards granted every year will be made at the discretion of the Research Foundation Board of Trustees.
  • Consortium/contractual arrangements will be allowed with collaborating organization in the event that significant work will be done by a collaborating institution.
  • Use of Robotic Research Grants are limited to “Direct Cost Only” budgets. Additional indirect costs will not be approved.
  • Robotic Research Grants may be used for supplies for scientific research as described in the application.
  • Robotic Research Grants may be used for salary support (not to exceed 10% of the of the NIH Cap salary ($212,100, Jan. 1 - Sept. 30, 2023), provided the salary support is for an individual directly involved in the scientific research described in the application and the level of salary support is commensurate with the time the individual will spend working on the scientific research in robotic surgical technology described in the application;
  • Robotic Research Grants may NOT be used for:
    • Overhead;  
    • Promotion of any products or services; 
    • Purchase of any materials or services from the Intuitive Foundation, Intuitive Surgical, Inc., Orpheus Medical, or any entity listed on the following website: https://www.intuitive.com/en-us/about-us/contact;
    • Payment for any forms of entertainment, including any social, sporting, or leisure activities; 
    • Attempting to influence legislation or the outcome of any specific public election, or carrying on any voter registration drive;
    • Any activities that result in an undue benefit to anyone as prohibited under applicable laws; and
    • Any activities not directly connected to scientific research in robotic surgical technology.

Submissions

The Research Foundation of the ASCRS uses a web-based platform for all grant submissions. Full instructions are available on the site in the top-right hand corner of the screen.
 
Applicants will log in to their ASCRS account to submit a grant application. Applicants do not need to be an ASCRS member but do need to have an ASCRS account. When the applicant clicks the Submit Grant button, they will be directed to the ScholarOne Portal, to sign in or to create an account.
 
Preparing Application Materials:
Applicants will be asked to enter or upload necessary information to submit a grant application, available here

Important Information*

  • Keep a record of Control ID number, which can be found on the top right corner on each page of the submission template. When communicating with the Research Foundation and the ScholarOne Customer Care Team, please include the Control ID as a reference.
  • Note that some institutions have firewalls that make it difficult to receive communications from the submission site. To ensure uninterrupted email delivery, please whitelist amazonses.com and abstractcentral.com domains.
  • Do not forget to click the submit button (at the bottom of Step 6: Review and Submit). If the system is exited without submitting, the submission will be saved and will appear in the “DRAFT” section of the system “View Submissions” page upon re-entering the system.
  • Notifications and correspondence will be sent to the email address in the ASCRS account. Correspondence can be obtained by clicking on the Messages in the grey bar at the top right of the screen in the system.
  • Applicants should receive a confirmation email after submission (please check spam/junk folders for this email). To prevent this, add onbehalfof@abstractcentral.com and rf@fascrs.org to address book. If an email confirmation is not received, please contact rf@fascrs.org.
  • Applicants should use Chrome to submit grant applications. Pop-up Blocker must be turned off for submission.

 

  • Proposed research must be conducted within the United States or Canada.
  • ASCRS members must be co-principal investigators or principal investigators.
  • Applicants submitting a proposal to this funding opportunity may not submit the same application to any other funding body at the same time.
  • Research that includes human or animal studies must have approval from the institution’s appropriate review board before the grant can be awarded.
