If you’ve got a novel, game-changing research project in mind, we want to hear from you! Our Research Innovation Awards grant scheme is open to Expressions of Interest, with a deadline of 8 October.

This call is for bold, innovative research projects that have the real potential to impact the way prostate cancer is diagnosed and treated. The scheme typically supports hypothesis-driven research projects 3-5 years in duration worth up to around £750K, but we do also welcome applications for smaller scale, yet highly innovative, pilot projects.

Eligibility Requirements

Our Research Innovation Award funds both fundamental and clinical research (and all stages in between), with all projects have a focus on eventual benefit to men. We will consider applications that bring innovative ideas from other cancer types and other diseases to be tested or translated for prostate cancer, and we encourage you to build teams that include experts from other disciplines and other countries to improve the project.

5 awards available. There are no financial restrictions on requests in this call – you should simply apply for what you need! Whilst this scheme typically supports research projects 3-5 years in duration, we do also welcome applications for smaller scale, yet highly innovative, pilot projects. Funding for projects of this type would usually be for up to 24 months, costing less than £100,000, with a focus of establishing proof of principle and/or generating novel data, whilst still being hypothesis-led research

Do I need experience in prostate cancer research to apply for your grant schemes

We welcome proposals from academics and clinicians not currently working on prostate cancer. However, in such cases, an expert from the prostate cancer research field should be named as a Joint-Lead Applicant or Co-Applicant on your proposal.

Can I reapply if my grant aplication was unsuccessful?

Applicants who have not been successful may reapply to future grant rounds as long as the proposal is sufficiently different from the original application (unless new data relevant to the proposal has come to light since the previous submission) AND all feedback points provided by the scientific committee are sufficiently addressed.

Can I apply for a grant funding if i hold a Prostate Cancer UK award?

Lead Applicants who are already in receipt of funding from Prostate Cancer UK are still eligible to apply to our grant calls . Applicants should however make a clear case as to why they are the most appropriate person to lead the proposal and provide reassurance that they will have sufficient time to oversee the delivery of the project. We will check whether the proposed time commitments towards the project would be feasible (for example, a 0.5 FTE commitment from someone already committing 1.0FTE on an existing grant would clearly not be feasible).
