PSF Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Research Grant

Plastic Surgery Foundation

This grant is intended to support plastic surgeons to pursue research in aesthetic/cosmetic plastic surgery. Eligible applicants include surgeons at all stages of their careers including residents, fellows, junior faculty, and advanced academicians; as well as early career to advanced practitioners in a variety of settings including private, employed, group, and academic practice physicians. Proposals should address aesthetic/cosmetic research topics and include focused research questions. The goals of the research may range from pilot projects to collect preliminary data to support larger future grant proposals; up to more advanced research questions that may lead to findings and results to have a more immediate impact on patient care. The PSF encourages new research concepts and novel ideas. Subject areas may include but are not limited to the following most common contemporary procedures in aesthetic plastic surgery: breast augmentation, liposuction, nose reshaping, eyelid surgery, tummy tuck, and facelift.

Award Amount: Up to $25,000

Project Duration: Up to 12 months Earliest

Evaluation Criteria: The PSF is dedicated to fostering the growth of research in Plastic Surgery. In order to ensure The PSF is successful in building a diverse, committed, inclusive, and self-sustaining plastic surgery research community, applications may also be evaluated on whether the PI is currently funded by The PSF, the PI has an open no cost extension by The PSF, or whether there are multiple grant submissions from the same lab at the same institution. The PI or their Sponsor’s donation history to the PSF may also be considered in the review of the application.

Online Application: All Applications must be submitted online through proposalCENTRAL. (proposalcentral.altum.com)

Deadline: Grants must be submitted in proposalCENTRAL by 11:59 P.M. (EASTERN) on or before December 2, 2024. No late submissions will be accepted. Corrections of oversights/errors discovered after the deadline will not be allowed.

Multiple Submissions: Applicants may submit more than one grant application ONLY if they are scientifically different, but only one research project may be funded.

• be a MD, DO, or PhD

• hold a full or part-time clinical or research position where the research will be conducted.

• be an Active, Candidate, International, or Associate member of ASPS or obtain sponsorship from an Active ASPS member at your institution.

o This is a requirement if you are currently in your training.

o For multiple PIs, a sponsor is required for only the applying PI.

o ASPS Associate Members may apply with identified ASPS Sponsor.

Yes; however, you must obtain sponsorship from an Active or Candidate ASPS member at your institution. See guidelines for required documentation. Combined Pilot Research Grants have additional requirements, so please review specific guidelines for each mechanism.

In addition to Active or Candidate ASPS members, are other members eligible to apply for PSF grants?

: Yes, Associate and International ASPS members can also apply for many ASPS grants. These individuals can identify another individual to serve as their ASPS sponsor, or act as their own.

Does an ASPS Sponsor also need to provide a separate Letter of Support?

Only if the Sponsor is also serving as a Co-Investigator or Collaborator, then a Letter of Support is required. The Sponsor Letter and Letter of Support can be combined but should follow the guidelines of what each letter should include. The Sponsor should indicate that they are also serving as a Co-Investigator or Collaborator for the project.

What types of costs are not allowed in the budget?

For most grants, budgets CANNOT include indirect costs, administrative costs, travel, publications costs, or capital equipment. A few grants have slightly different budget guidelines, so please verify the specific grant guidelines to confirm

In the application system, what should you select for “Institution” if you are a private practice?

The application system, proposalCENTRAL, requires an institution selection and therefore you can go ahead and register your private practice name under the Institution Profile tab. Once you create it, it will be available for submission.
