Overview
Up to 14 grants from the ORS and Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation will provide $500 each to be used for early career clinician scientists and clinical investigators to attend the ORS 2026 Annual Meeting.
The ORS is dedicated to fostering excellence in orthopaedic research and increasing the representation of original research in clinical and translational medical research among clinician scientists. Towards this goal, the ORS is pleased to announce the ORS Travel Grants in Orthopaedic Research Translation.
These grants, established in 2009, recognize clinician scientists and clinical investigators in the early stages of their career who have played a key or leading role in an original research project in clinical or translational medicine, and who have demonstrated excellence in training and a commitment to orthopaedic research.
Grant determinations will be made based on the quality of the applicant’s study described in a submitted abstract in the area of clinical or translational research as determined by the ORS Awards and Recognition Committee and satisfaction of all eligibility criteria.
Award Selection
Grant determinations will be made based on the quality (score) of the applicant’s study described in a submitted abstract in clinical or translational research as determined via a rigorous peer review process overseen by the ORS Scientific Program Committee.
Submissions Due Monday, August 25, 2025
You must be an active ORS member to apply across all grants (OREF, travel, fellowships).
Early-stage clinician-scientists (≤5 years out from residency) are best suited for Travel Grants, while postdocs/residents fit the OREF Post‑doctoral & Resident Research Project Grants.
Travel grants are awarded based on abstract scores for scientific and clinical impact .
Research project submissions must demonstrate rigorous methodology, patient relevance, and clear clinical translation objectives .
Successful applicants highlight formal mentor supervision (ORS-linked senior researcher) and demonstrate a structured plan for career development .
Applications should also show institutional integration, such as lab or clinical setting affiliation.
Postdoctoral and resident grants require demonstration of research productivity—papers, abstracts, prior experience.
OREF Career Development Grants correlate with high translation rates—~48% of these recipients secure major federal funding .
ORS/OREF prioritizes clinical or translational projects aimed at enhancing patient outcomes or moving bench discoveries into practice.
Collaborative exchanges (international lab visits) and team science approaches are encouraged and funded .
Research proposals must follow formal guidelines: specified page limits (e.g., 20 pages), required summary sheets, and timely submission formats .
Applications are automatically eliminated if missing materials or incorrectly formatted.
