Industrial PhD for non-university research institutions
The FFG call „Industrienahe Dissertationen 2025“ (industrial PhD) supports researchers who are working on research questions in the natural sciences, technology or current research questions in applied research in relation to the triple transition. The PhD project is carried out in co-operation between a non-university research institution, a university with the right to award doctorates and a doctoral candidate. Funding is awarded to the non-university research institution in Austria that employs the doctoral candidate. An economic application of the project is necessary. The call is open to all topics.
What can be funded?
This call supports industry-related PhD projects of PhD students at non-university research institutions located in Austria with funds from Fonds Zukunft Österreich. The call is open to all topics.
What is the amount of funding?
A maximum of EUR 110,000 or 50% of the total costs will be funded per project. The funding is focussed on the personnel costs of the doctoral candidate.
There is no limit to the number of projects submitted per organization. A total of EUR 6 million is available.
What are the submission criteria?
The PhD project is carried out in co-operation between a non-university research institution, a university with the right to award doctorates and a doctoral candidate. The doctoral candidate is employed by the non-university research institution and is integrated into the organisation with specific measures and supported in the project.
The non-university research Institution applies for the funding. An economic application reference is intended and must be presented in the application.
50% of the funds are reserved for female students.
