IADR Pediatric Oral Health Research Group Student Award

International Association for Dental Research(IADR)

The Pediatric Oral Health Research Group of IADR has established this award to support and recognise excellence in research focused on the oral health of children and adolescents by young scientists and students (DMD/DDS students, postgraduate students/residents in specialty training postgraduate/certificate programs). The winner will receive a Certificate of Recognition and $1000 USD.

Criteria

The Award will be given on the basis of general excellence in research related to pediatric oral health as demonstrated by the abstract and, and oral or poster presentation (either face-to-face or online presentation).

Award

The President of the POHR Group will convene a judging panel comprising the current Executive Committee of the Pediatric Oral Health Research Group. This panel will evaluate abstracts and select finalists. The second round of the competition will consist of a presentation session where each finalist will have an opportunity to discuss their poster with the judges. Therefore, finalists are expected to be available for the presentation session of the IADR General Session. The winner will be announced in the Pediatric Oral Health Research Group business meeting or soon after the completion of the General Session. Applicants will be judged for the quality of presentation and responses to questions.
In case of a tie in votes between two or more candidates, the President will convene a second judging panel comprising former members of the Executive Committee of the Pediatric Oral Health Research Group and continue to do so until one candidate has the majority of votes.
The Award will take the form of a certificate and a cash prize of $1,000 USD.

Each applicant must be the primary author and be the presenter of an abstract accepted for presentation at the IADR General Session. The applicant must pre-register for the meeting as a student.

Research submitted for presentation in the General Session & Exhibition of the IADR, will be eligible for consideration for the Pediatric Oral Health Research Award, provided it has not been published. When submitting the abstract, it must be assigned to the Pediatric Oral Health Research Group and the Pediatric Oral Health Research Student Award category must be selected.
The deadline for receipt of applications coincides with the IADR abstract submission deadline for the IADR General Session & Exhibition.

Awardee Responsibilities:

To attend (1) the general IADR meeting in the year in which the Award is made and, (2) the Pediatric Oral Health Research Group annual business meeting where the awardee will be announced and receive the plaque.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants are required to be members of the Pediatric Oral Health Research Group, at the time of application and receipt of the prize. Applicants should be dental students, residents in certificate programs or postgraduate students in pediatric dentistry specialty training programs (e.g. MS/MSD/DCD candidates). Applicants are required to submit evidence to confirm eligibility for this award (e.g. evidence of enrolment/letter from specialty program director) at the time of abstract submission.
Applicants can only apply under one category of the Pediatric Oral Health Research Group Awards in any given year.
