The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGR) intends to promote a new initiative by publishing a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to advance scholarship on the ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI) of advances in human genetics or genomics, enhance ELSI research teams, build ELSI research capacity, and broaden the ELSI workforce.The intended NOFO will be based on a concept recently approved by the National Advisory Council on Human Genome Research and accompanying discussion. This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects, and to consult with NIH following release of the intended NOFO to submit responsive applications. The NOFO is expected to be published in summer of 2004 with an expected application due date in fall of 2024. This NOFO will utilize the UM1 activity code (Research Project with Complex Structure, Cooperative Agreement, Clinical Trial Optional).
