Call for Joint Duke/DKU Proposals for Duke Provost Funds

Duke University

The Office of the Provost at Duke University provides funding to support DKU and Duke faculty engagement and collaborative initiatives of high promise and mutual interest. This call for proposals (CFP) aims to solicit proposals to cultivate joint collaboration efforts between Duke and DKU. All proposals will be reviewed at Duke by following the relevant guidelines/rules for Office of the Provost funding.

The following guidelines should be taken into consideration when preparing a proposal:
• Any faculty member with a full-time or primary appointment at Duke or DKU is eligible to apply for funding.
• Both education (e.g., joint class) and research projects are welcome.
• A proposal should have one PI at Duke and one PI at DKU. Ideally, projects will involve a group of faculty members from both Duke and DKU, but it is not required.
• For AY 24/25, each project is expected to start no later than February 1, 2025 and the project duration is expected to be no more than 1 year.
• Beginning AY 25/26, projects will be awarded during the Duke budget process (December 2024 – March 2025) and will begin on July 1, 2025.
• If there are funds available after the Duke budget process, additional proposals can be submitted throughout the academic year for review.
• Off-cycle and multi-year proposals will be considered but their needs must be especially compelling.
• Two separate budget plans must be made: one for costs incurred at Duke and the other for costs incurred at DKU.
• Each faculty member can only submit one proposal as the PI or faculty participant in each year. In addition, each faculty member can have at most one active project funded by Duke provost funds or other funding promoting Duke/DKU collaborations (e.g. DKU-Duke Collaboration Grant) at any time.
• All proposals are encouraged to involve DKU and/or Duke undergraduate students in their proposed work, but it is not required.

A proposal should be prepared by using the attached template. It must include all relevant sections listed in the template. Please refer to the template for the detailed instructions. Please compile your full proposal and all supporting documents as a SINGLE PDF file and email the PDF document to Tiffany Zhang (qingqing.zhang@dukekunshan.edu.cn) with the subject line of “Proposal for Duke Provost Funds”.

AY 24/25 Timeline:
Proposal submission deadline: November 30, 2024
Project awarded: no later than January 15, 2025
Project start date: no later than February 1, 2025

Timeline beginning AY 25/26:
Proposal submissions begin: December 15, 2024
Proposal submission deadline: March 15, 2025
Project awarded: by April 2025
Project start date: July 1, 2025

Timeline to apply for unallocated funds, if any:
Proposal submissions: May 1 – November 30
Project awarded: no later than January 15
Project start date: no later than February 1
