Which Grant should I apply for?

The Pediatric Epilepsy Research Foundation® (PERF®)- CNS Elterman Research Grant supports clinical or basic science research while the PERF®- CNS Shields Research Grant supports translational or clinical research. The applicant should review the “Career Development Grants Overview and Guidance” for eligibility criteria and application instructions
No. However, the Shields grant needs to have a clinical component, whereas the Elterman grant does not. The PERF®-CNS grants do not need to be related to epilepsy. Currently funded research is disqualified for the PERF Elterman and Shields Grants except for an NIH KL2, K12, R25 or T32 grant. Candidates are eligible for the PERF Elterman and Shields Grants if they have received an NIH KL2, K12, R25 or T32 grant.
No, you are not eligible to apply if you have a NIH K08, K23, or K99.
Yes, the Awards Committee will consider every application. However, when considering two or more outstanding proposals, the Committee may give preference to the applicant without prior funding from CNS, CNF, or PERF.
Award recipients will be notified by the end of June of the granting year. The funding cycle begins September 1 contingent on execution of the grant agreement and IRB approval of the research project.
During the grant period, or in the following year (i.e. April), the Awardee will be required to submit an abstract for presentation to the CNS Annual Meeting. Should the abstract be accepted for publication, the Awardee will receive a fee waiver to cover the cost of meeting registration. We also anticipate that projects funded by this grant will lead to publication of original research in peer-reviewed journals. The abstract for the poster/platform should be appropriately modified to conform with the CNS Meeting Guidelines (Objective, Methods, Results, Conclusions).
The suggested format and instructions for completing the application are provided in the document, “Career Development Grants Overview and Guidance.
