Research grants are awarded twice a year. Application deadlines are January 1st and June 15th of each year. Grant applicants will be notified of approval or denial by March 15th of the same year (January applicants) and by August 1st of the same year (June applicants). All grant awardees will be acknowledged at the ASPAN National Conference.
Research Grants applications and supporting materials must be submitted electronically in their entirety, no exceptions.
1. Alignment with ASPAN’s Mission and Priorities
ASPAN supports research and evidence-based practice (EBP) efforts directly relevant to perianesthesia nursing, including clinical quality improvement, pain management, safety protocols, and educational strategies.
Demonstrating how your project supports the society’s core mission is essential
2. Clear, Feasible Study Design
They require a well-defined project that can be completed within the specified timeline and budget ($500–$10,000) .
Include specific aims, methodology, sample size, statistical plans, and measurable outcomes. Clear feasibility is key.
3. Evidence-Based Practice and Clinical Relevance
Projects rooted in established best practices or exploring ways to implement EBP in the perianesthesia context are highly prioritized.
Aligning with clinical inquiry formats (e.g., Research/EBP/QI) shows fitness for ASPAN’s grant framework .
4. Institutional and Peer Support
Although not explicitly stated, successful applicants typically provide letters of support and show access to necessary resources (labs, patient populations, mentorship).
Active ASPAN membership is also a plus
5. Focus on Impact and Dissemination
ASPAN highlights research that will influence actual clinical practice—such as quality improvement pilots with potential for broader application.
Clearly describe how results will be communicated (e.g., at ASPAN conferences) or lead to change in clinical standards .
6. Timeliness and Submission Compliance
They run grants twice yearly (deadlines Jan 1 and Jun 15), with notifications by Mar 15 and Aug 1 .
Complete, on-time submissions—including all required forms—are critical.
