AAMC Robert Wood Johnson Foundation David E. Rogers Award

Association of American Medical Colleges(AAMC)

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation David E. Rogers Award honors a medical school faculty member who has made major contributions to improving public health and health care. The award honors the legacy of David E. Rogers, MD, the first president of the foundation and an exemplar of academic medicine’s commitment to meeting the health care needs of the public. Throughout his life, Dr. Rogers was a dynamic influence in stimulating programs in academic medicine, especially in areas of social interest.

The award has been jointly sponsored by the AAMC and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation since 1995. In 2018, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation established the David E. Rogers Award Endowment at the AAMC to support the annual presentation of the award in perpetuity.

The awardee receives the RWJF Rogers Award and a prize of $10,000. Nominations are due Jan. 24, 2025.

Guidelines for Entry

The nominee must be an individual who has a faculty appointment at an AAMC-member medical school, but rank is not a criterion for this award.

Anyone may submit a nomination. Nominations must be received by Jan. 24, 2025, via the electronic entry form. The fields required for nomination can be previewed here.

The review committee will select up to three finalists. Nominators of finalists will be notified by March 7, 2025, that they are invited to submit letters of support. Final-round letters of support must include:

  • One two-page letter of support of the finalist authored by an AAMC-member institution’s dean, CEO, or president on institutional letterhead.
  • Three additional two-page letters of support attesting to the nominee’s qualifications for the RWJF Rogers Award.

Additional support materials must be submitted by April 4, 2025. There is no need to compile these letters before notification on March 7.

The winner of the award will be notified by July 11, 2025, and honored during the AAMC Virtual Awards Recognition Event.
